In late 2021, AREA Ruhr started an annual event called “AREA-Tag” (AREA Day) which seeks to explore traces of East Asia in North Rhine-Westphalia (“Auf den Spuren Ostasiens in NRW”) and to introduce them to a general audience. Since then, the event has included lectures, guided museum tours, and two cultural experience days.
AREA Day 2026: Science meets Asia Pop
10 Years of AREA Ruhr – We are looking back on a decade of your collaborative research on East Asia and would like to take this opportunity to celebrate. What began in 2016 as a small research group has, thanks to loyal companions, dedicated individuals, and tremendous support , grown into what it is today. This milestone anniversary is the perfect occasion to invite you to join us in looking back on this special journey and looking forward to a successful future.
This year’s AREA Day bears the title “Science meets Asia Pop” and will be hosted on 6 November, starting at 2 pm, in cooperation with the NRW-Forum (Ehrenhof 2, 40479 Düsseldorf). The venue is currently host to the exhibition “Asia Pop” (17 Sep 2026 – 23 May 2027), which we will explore through an exclusive guided tour with the curators.

Please note that separate registrations are mandatory for all three programme blocks, due to a limited number of participants for the guided tour and room size constraints.
