Ende 2021 startete die AREA Ruhr ein neues alljährlich stattfindendes Veranstaltungsformat; den “AREA Day”. Zielsetzung ist sich auf “Auf die Spuren Ostasiens in NRW” zu begeben und diese Erkundungen einem breiten Publikum vorzustellen.
Veranstaltungsort war das Museum DKM in Duisburg, welches über eine exquisite und in Deutschland einzigartige Sammlung ostasiatischer Kunst verfügt. Neben der Teilnahme an den Museumsführungen wurden die Gäste der AREA Ruhr von Wieland Schulz in “die Welt der chinesischen Tees” eingeführt.
Dem Jubiläum der 40-jährigen deutsch-chinesischen Zusammenarbeit von Duisburg und Wuhan waren die Vorträgen zum Thema Deutsch-chinesischer Austausch im Schatten der großen Politik: kommunale Partnerschaften und Hochschulkooperationen gewidmet.
Die Vorträge wurden von Prof. Thomas Heberer (Seniorprofessor am IN-EAST und Mitglied der AREA Ruhr) und Matthias Stepan M.A. (OAW/RUB) gehalten.

At the end of 2021, AREA Ruhr launched a new annual event format; the “AREA Day”. The aim is to “follow in the footsteps of East Asia in NRW” and present these explorations to a wide audience.
The venue for the event was the Museum DKM in Duisburg, which has an exquisite collection of East Asian art that is unique in Germany. In addition to taking part in the museum tours, the AREA Ruhr guests were introduced to “the world of Chinese teas” by Wieland Schulz.
The lectures on the topic of German-Chinese exchange in the shadow of big politics: municipal partnerships and university cooperation were dedicated to the anniversary of 40 years of German-Chinese cooperation between Duisburg and Wuhan.
The lectures were held by Prof. Thomas Heberer (Senior Professor at IN-EAST and member of AREA Ruhr) and Matthias Stepan M.A. (OAW/RUB).
