Ono Akihiro (Iwaki Memorial Hall) on the 3/11 Catastrophe and its Consequences
Date: 11 July 2025
Time: 12.00–13.30 CET
AREA Ruhr and IN-EAST invite you to a presentation from Iwaki, one of the cities on Japan’s Northeastern Coast heavily damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Ono Akihiro, who is a local witness of the catastrophe and has been reporting about his experience and that of his community, will talk about the tragic day and its consequences.
Ono-san is member of the Memorial Hall (いわき震災伝承みらい館; www.memorial-iwaki.com/) in Iwaki. As 語り部, he professionally tells the story of 3/11 to keep the memory alive and let people know what has become of his town and the region.
Please join us for this presentation which will be given in Japanese (slides will contain some English terms).
For advanced students of Japanese this might be an excellent opportunity to test their language skills; so please join us as well!
