The Taiwan Research Unit at the Faculty of East Asian Studies, RUB will hold a photo exhibition on the history of the Taiwanese educational system in cooperation with the RUB university library from 30 September to 15 November 2024. An opening event will be conducted on 30 September, 5 PM at the university library (Floor 1, Room 09).
Using photos from two archival collections, the exhibition documents snapshots of educational initiatives in elementary, middle and higher schools as well as in vocational training in Taiwan between 1900 and 1950. One half of the exhibits stems from the archive of the Japanese doctor and second director of the Taipei Medical School Takagi Tomoe (1858–1943), which is being processed as part of the BMBF project “Taiwan as a Pioneer” (TAP). The remaining half consists of photographs of the first language and teacher training institute, today’s Taipei University of Education (NTUE). With financial support of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation, the latter half is currently subject to a joint digitalization project carried out by NTUE and RUB.
Anyone interested is cordially invited to join us for the exhibition opening and visit the exhibition, which is accessible during the library’s opening hours. For further information, please refer to the official exhibition website of the university library or to the exhibition flyer. The exhibition opening will be held in German and English.
