About the event
Research security is a rapidly developing field among advanced economies and it has never been more important for partner nations among them to build interoperable systems for managing it. This talk will cover recent research security developments in the United States and the necessity of keeping pace with an evolving risk environment to sustain and expand the global scientific commons.
The event is hosted by the Faculty of East Asian Studies (OAW) and takes place as part of the AREA Ruhr research project on “Securitized and Resilient China: Implications for Germany and the European Union” (SEREC), a joint project by OAW and the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST / University of Duisburg-Essen).
About the speaker
Glenn Tiffert is a distinguished research fellow at the Hoover Institution and a historian of modern China. He co-chairs Hoover’s programme on the U.S., China, and the World and directs Stanford’s participation in the $67 million SECURE programme to bolster the security of the U.S. research enterprise. His work focuses on the integrity of knowledge ecosystems, science and technology policy, and the domestic and international affairs of the People’s Republic of China and foreign influence operations. His publications include Eyes Wide Open: Ethical Risks in Research Collaboration with China (2021) and Silicon Triangle: The United States, Taiwan, China, and Global Semiconductor Security (2023).
