The Belt and Road Initiative: Retrospect and Prospect
The Belt and Road Initiative, guided by the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, has become a major platform for international cooperation over the past decade. Notable progress has been made in infrastructure connectivity and trade. Looking ahead, it will focus on high-quality development by implementing eight key actions, including building a multidimensional connectivity network, supporting an open world economy, and promoting green development.

About the speaker
Prof. Yuan Li is the Executive Dean of the Institute of International Studies, Shandong University. His main research focus includes political economy, institutional economics, and area studies. In recent years, he has conducted extensive research on the Belt and Road Initiative. He got his PhD in Economics from DEFAP, Catholic University of Milan. From 2014–2020, he was a professor at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST), University of Duisburg-Essen. From 2012–2013, he was an Assistant Professor at Stockholm School of Economics. He held various visiting positions at the University of California, San Diego, University of Milan-Bicocca, and Fudan University. He had been the President of the Chinese Economic Association, Europe/UK (2016–2017).
