Commemoration of the end of World War II and the ensuing system change have been a topic of many public events and scholarly debates. Intellectuals, for instance from the fields of history, political science, and cultural studies, have discussed this turning point from various perspectives, looking back and forward, as well as to cities, states, macro-regions and the world.

For this AREA Ruhr Roundtable, we invited the Mercator Fellow experts of the DFG-funded Research Training Group East Asian Futures to reflect upon hopes and aspirations for the future within East Asian societies at the end of World War II 80 years ago and the commemoration of the war’s end in East Asia in the year 2025.

You are warmly welcome to join this AREA Ruhr Roundtable in physical presence or online via Zoom to discuss with us.
