On 1 October 2017, the first cohort of AREA Ruhr doctoral students started their studies in the “Transnational Institution Building and Transnational Identities in East Asia” doctoral programme from AREA Ruhr. Aya Adachi, Julia Breuer, Yasmin Koppen and Anastasia Nikulina receive funding from Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR) for their projects.
They cover the diversity of Trade Policy-Making in China and Japan, EU’s Africa policy against the background of China’s OBOR initiative, the Relation between Landscape and Legitimation in China and adjoining empires and the Role of Local institutions in the Cross Border Policy concerning China and Russia.
The doctoral programme is jointly organized by the Faculty of East Asian Studies (Ruhr-University Bochum) and the Institute of East Asian Studies (University of Duisburg-Essen).
