Panel discussion: Integration in East Asia, Disintegration in Europe?

Cancelled due to illness.

For long, the EU has been touted the success story and the model of regional integration. Yet, Brexit, deep divisions over the handling of the financial and refugee crises, and a surge in right-wing populism have cast severe doubt on the ideals and cohesion of the European project. In East Asia, growing economic and societal ties between nations have prompted efforts to promote regional integration, such as the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat, the Chiang Mai Initiative, or ASEAN+3. Do we witness European integration failing and the emergence of a new East Asian regionalism?

AREA Ruhr has invited internationally leading experts to discuss European and Asian experiences and processes of regional (dis-)integration at this critical juncture in history.
