Prof. Thomas Heberer of IN-EAST has given the inaugural lecture of AREA Ruhr’s lecture series on November 2nd, speaking on the “East Asian path of development and the China model”. Speaking to an audience of researchers and students,  in his talk, Prof. Heberer presented a synthesis of the developmental state approach and discussed how it helps to explain strengths and weaknesses of China’s economic growth and development model over the past decades.

The lecture series will continue on December 7th with a talk by Prof. Plassen on Buddhism and its relation to nationhood and transregionalism in East Asia.
