You are cordially invited to the 2019 Annual Conference of the German Association for Social Science Research on Japan (VSJF) “Metropolitan Japan in Historical and Contemporary Perspective”. The conference will take place at Ruhr University Bochum on November 8-10, 2019. We are delighted to have Prof. Saskia Sassen (Columbia University) and Prof. André Sorensen (University of Toronto) as our keynote speakers. The Association was founded in 1988 to provide a forum for the promotion and exchange of knowledge about politics, economics, society and culture of contemporary Japan in the German-speaking countries Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It is conceived as a forum for researchers and students from the fields of Japanese studies as well as from social sciences, including cultural studies.
